About Me:

Hi!

I’m Stephanie MacDonald, a production designer, set decorator, and all around art department set of hands. I currently live in Los Angeles after living and working in Chicago most of my adult life. I started working in film when I was 18 and shooting music festivals and live events for my friends’ bands and quickly realized I wanted to learn more traditional filmmaking and figure out where I fit. I spent years as a production assistant, assistant camera, and shooting my own content until I took on an art department job. It was pure chaos and didn’t make much sense to me, but I had so much fun that I stayed in that department trying to figure out what role I enjoy. I worked my way up to designing and art directing features, shorts, and commercials. Art department teaches such important practical skills that I use in my every day life and seeing how a good team can transform any space and turn it into a new world is something that never gets old to me.

I learned quickly that I’m a resourceful person who can think on my feet and execute anything as small as an idea with a good team. Designing + set decorating is something I’ve learned I’m passionate about, I enjoy the resourcefulness of making a lot out of small budgets, making something out of nothing, and sourcing vintage props. I learned so much in Chicago learning through multiple designers, as well as learning so much on my own through experience.

I decided after living in the midwest all my life, to try to move to LA and find more work out here to keep meeting more people and working on different projects!
